That’s the mantra with which the Residents of Park Circus area and the members of The Burhani Scout Troop (Kolkata) gathered in the Park Circus Maidan at 5.30 am this morning.

This Maidan is used by innumerable people for innumerable purposes, but none of the revelers ever take an initiative to keep it clean and Green. Hence, we decided that we need to take a step forward and find a solution to fight Garbage.

The moment we entered the Maidan from the Orient Row gate we saw a huge heap of garbage consisting of pan masala packets, rags, footwear, broken crockery, pots, and a large number of other unwanted items which prevented one of the entrance gates from functioning. We had a couple of hours in hand as young boys had to make it to school on time.

We decided to accept this challenge and this is what we managed to Achieve:-

1)    The entrance gate which was non-functional for the past 2 years was ready for use.

2)    Many other patches of the Maidan were also cleaned up.

3)    After the clean up the entrance area was sanitized by the residents.

The Residents were a great support as they had arranged for all the necessary equipments which included gloves, shovels, spades brooms and sacks and whenever our boys were tired they replenished their energy with water and energy drinks.

In the end, it was a complete team effort but it is just a beginning for us, because we need to make sure that the entire Maidan is cleaned up as soon as possible so that we can move on to clean up other polluted spots in our city.

We will gather again on this Sunday (05/04/2009) at 6 am to continue with our fight against Garbage and we are expecting students of Don Bosco School and M B Girls High School to join us from mid April onwards.

All Mumeneen are requested to join us ( both Male and Female) to help us in making our environment more healthy.
